RHE Media is delighted to introduce you to our new Photography website and to our two new series of Photography books – PhotoActive and PhotoWise. We are also delighted that Tony Worobiec has agreed to be our series editor for both series and that such skilled and experienced photographers have agreed to write books for us. We begin with words of wisdom from David Penprase in our first PhotoWise title Developing a Photographic Style and three PhotoActive titles including a very useful guide to free image manipulation software by Peter Cope, an inspiring look at black and white photography by Paul Gallagher, and a unique and fascinating exploration of landscape and weather by Tony Worobiec.

We are publishing our titles as fixed layout ebooks as we think the ebook format lends itself particularly to photography books. Ebooks are easy to take with you when you are out and about taking photographs, we can include things like slideshows and video and we can publish short topic books at reasonable prices. Some titles will also need updating regularly and this is much easier in ebook format.

In line with our overall aim of producing content that enhances wellbeing in all its forms, our Photography titles support a hobby that brings pleasure to people of all ages all over the world. On our ‘About Us’ page we have outlined the ways in which Photography relates to the five ways to wellbeing. This is our interpretation of course but it is backed up by what many well-known photographers have said over the years. Here are some examples:

Connect – Photography and relationships with others:

‘You know, my dad wasn't a photographer or filmmaker by profession, but on Sundays, he would take pictures of me and my family or his pals horseback riding, and it was a means of communication and affection, a means of not being so dysfunctional with each other’.
Bruce Weber http://www.bruceweber.com/#/about/bruce__nan_bios

Be Active – Photography as a reason and motivation for getting outside and being active:

Yosemite Valley, to me, is always a sunrise, a glitter of green and golden wonder in a vast edifice of stone and space.
Ansel Adams

Take Notice – Photography and mindfulness – being in the moment:

‘The camera makes you forget you’re there. It’s not like you are hiding but you forget, you are just looking so much.’
Annie Leibovitz

Learn – Photography and learning as an ongoing process:

‘Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst’.
Henri Cartier-Bresson

‘A photograph is a click away. A good photograph is a hundred clicks away and a better one, a thousand clicks away.’
Kowtham Kumar K https://kowthamkumark.wordpress.com

Give – Photography and giving something back:

‘For me, documentary photography has always come with great responsibility. Not just to tell the story honestly and with empathy, but also to make sure the right people hear it. When you photograph somebody who is in pain or discomfort, they trust you to make sure the images will act as their advocate.’
Giles Duley http://gilesduley.com/#/bio

‘As I have practiced it, photography produces pleasure by simplicity. I see something special and show it to the camera. A picture is produced. The moment is held until someone sees it. Then it is theirs.’
Sam Abell

‘Photography is not selfish. Although it captures the moment, it doesn’t keep it. Photography gives back to the viewer the fraction of time which it once captured. Making it generous for years and even generations to come.’
Mickey Burrow http://www.mickeybphoto.com/about.html

We hope you find much to inspire, learn and enjoy in our Photography titles. If you do, please let us know. You can communicate with us via this website, on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Flickr – share your thoughts and share your photographs as we would love to hear from you and to see your work. Visit us regularly as we will be adding new titles, running competitions and blogging on a wide range of Photography topics.
